چکیده

We investigate the statistical distribution of separation time DT between the adjacent two Barkhausen jumps in Co films having the thickness ranging from 5 to 50 nm. By means of a magneto-optical microscope magnetometer, we determine the time-dependent magnetization curve and the separation time DT between two jump events during avalanche process from the directly observed time-resolved domain evolution patterns. Through a statistical analysis of DT , we find that the distribution P(DT) seems to follow a power-law behavior with the same form within the error range, irrespective of the film thickness. © 2004 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1688638#

Direct observation of Barkhausen avalanche in Co thin films.

We report direct full-field magneto-optical observations of Barkhausen avalanches in Co polycrystalline thin films at criticality. We provide experimental evidence for the validity of a phenomenological model of the Barkhausen avalanche originally proposed by Cizeau, Zapperi, Durin, and Stanley [Phys. Rev. Lett. 79, 4669 (1997)]], where the model describes a 180 degrees -type flexible domain wa...

Power-Law Scaling Behavior in Barkhausen Avalanches of 2D Ferromagnetic Films

It is recognized that the magnetization reverses with a sequence of discrete and jerky jumps, known as the Barkhausen effect. Recently, interest in the Barkhausen effect has grown as it is a good example of dynamical critical scaling behavior, evidenced by experimental observation of a power law distribution of the Barkhausen jump size. So far, most experimental studies have been carried out on...

Universality beyond power laws and the average avalanche shape

The study of critical phenomena and universal power laws has been one of the central advances in statistical mechanics during the second half of the past century, explaining traditional thermodynamic critical points1, avalanche behaviour near depinning transitions2,3 and a wide variety of other phenomena4. Scaling, universality and the renormalization group claim to predict all behaviour at lon...

Statistical properties of Barkhausen noise in amorphous ferromagnetic films.

We investigate the statistical properties of the Barkhausen noise in amorphous ferromagnetic films with thicknesses in the range between 100 and 1000 nm. From Barkhausen noise time series measured with the traditional inductive technique, we perform a wide statistical analysis and establish the scaling exponents τ,α,1/σνz, and ϑ. We also focus on the average shape of the avalanches, which gives...

Direct observation of Barkhausen effect in strip-patterned ferromagnetic Co/Pd multilayer films

The one-dimensional Barkhausen effect was observed in lithographically defined magnetic strips of Co/Pd multilayer films. The magnetic domain expanded stepwise with a constant speed between pinning sites. Both the wall propagation and the pinning were characterized by the thermal activation process based on their exponential dependency on the strength of the applied magnetic field. The Barkhaus...
